City of West Chicago, Illinois Hit Hard by Storm July 1st, 2012

Around noon on July 1st DuPage County was hit hard by a storm with winds over 100 miles per hour.  The storm only lasted 40 minutes or so.  It’s unbelievable what a storm can do in such a short period of time.  At the time of the storm I was in Belvidere Illinois holding an open house.  I could see storm clouds but the storm never hit Belvidere.  My husband told me to take my time coming home because  the weather was so bad.

As I was driving down Route 59 I could see how hard the storm hit areas like Bartlett, West Chicago, Carol Stream, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Winfield and Warrenville.  Route 59 and Stearns was the beginning of where some of the damage occured.  Power was out from Stearns to Batavia Road in Warrenville.  Driving through these cities was slow go. Every stop light was out. The only places that had power were the businesses with generators.  When I made it home I couldn’t believe what I saw.  It had to be a tornado.  Trees and power lines were down everywhere.  My kids said it was like a nightmare.  Later that day we took a trip to Reed Keppler Park, a 5 minute walk from my house, and we viewed the ABC News Van getting ready to video or shoot live around 10pm.  We couldn’t walk because the power lines were down.

ABC News says you can go online to check the Outage Alerts from Commonwealth Edison. www.comed.com.   If you don’t  have power take advantage of the local Starbucks, Panera, McDonald’s or anywhere you can get online.  Check on your neighbors and if you are looking for a place to cool off go to the mall.  If your home is on the market and you are out of power make sure you empty the icemaker, take out the clothes in the washing machine and hang them to dry.  Let the listing agent know to put your home temporarily off the market until the power comes back on.

As of today, around 5:30pm Power for many is still out. We were without power from 12:30pm until 3:40am on July 2nd. Check out the photos from behind the Willow Creek Townhomes and the down trees at Reed Keppler Park.  If you need help don’t hestiate to ask your neighbors and remember for all emergencies call 911.

What’s Holding You Back

What’s holding you back? Not sure where to begin, no down payment, afraid of the responsibility, I lost a home to foreclosure, I have a prior bankruptcy. Whatever the reason don’t let it hold you back from owning a home.

If you’re not sure where to begin I’ll be glad to provide the steps to owning a home. Many people think they can’t own a home because they don’t have a down payment. This can be easily overcome with a simple savings plan or with the use of the downpayment programs. Many don’t want to take care of the maintenance of a home. If that’s you, consider a condominium or a town home with an association that takes care of the maintenance for you. Yes, there’s an additional fee.

Now if you are someone that lost a home to foreclosure or have a dismissed bankruptcy you can also own again or own a home. You may need to wait at least 3 years and make sure you are paying your bills on time. Also consider opening a few secure credit lines to rebuild your credit.

Whatever is holding you back you don’t have to be afraid of it. Contact me today and I’ll help you with a realistic plan to help you get on the road to home ownership. Click the Illinois homes link and send your contact information today. I look forward to making your dream come true.

March 30, 2012 Mega Millions Winning Ticket in Maryland, I Didn’t Win

So I didn’t come out the winner in the Mega Millions lottery last night. Congratulations to the lucky winner. Yes, Lucky Winner.

If I won the Mega Millions I would open a technology center for adults and kids. People of all ages would have the opportunity to come out and learn new skills to compete in the ever changing job market. Not everyone is built for college. With that said everyone needs to keep up with technology to maintain a job, get a job or increase their pay check. We must always learn new technology if you don’t want to go for a bachelor degree.

I would also open a gym where kids of all ages can come out and develop their sports skills. Our youth are learning sports skills at younger ages. To compete in areas like basketball you need to have access to a gym.

I believe that when I get the funds to open these facilities I would be able to change the lives of the current and generations to come. Train up a child in the way they should go and they will never depart from it. This is quoted from the bible.

Local Amenities, are they Important in a Home Search?

We are headed to the skating rink this evening during Spring Break. I remember roller skating every Monday evening with my sister and friends. When I drive by the areas where we would go skating its hard to believe that the rinks have been demolished. What a shame.

Today many kids use roller blades instead of the traditional roller skates. Could that be the reason we stopped going to the local roller rinks? Maybe or maybe not.

Whether it’s a roller rink, park district, swimming pool or the athletics club this could be an important part of your home buying decision. Since the internet makes it easy to research what each city offers you have no excuse. Do your homework. Know what’s available. Something to consider before signing the contract. It might be beneficial when you decide to sell. This could be important to the next homeowner.

www.carriebey.com start a home search today and research the city where you may decide to purchase.
